Get Well Soon.....
Lorna Anderson : Anderson Health Management

Lorna Anderson, Director of Anderson Health is offering Cambridgeshire businesses a completely free management presentation entitled, Get Well Soon….

The presentation covers:

• How to recognise the early signs of mental health problems
• Who to seek help from and what help is available locally
• How employers can help staff return to work after a period of sickness due to stress, depression or anxiety
• Why a mental health policy makes sense and makes life easier for everyone
• ‘Well Notes’ – their place in supporting people back to work

Sick notes
With a staggering 40% of sick notes being issued for mild to moderate mental health problems this is an issue that just about every employer will have to deal with at some point in their working life. Having a robust mental health policy in place protects employers from potential litigation, helps them meet their duty of care requirements and gives them the confidence that they are able to deal effectively and calmly with their employee’s mental health issues.

Well notes
On the issue of ‘Well Notes’, which have been high on the news agenda of late, Lorna Anderson’s experience is that many GPs are willing to give written agreement to their patient returning to work on a gradual basis if certain conditions are met. In practice this means that they have seen a written return to work plan and are confident that adequate support and review processes are in place.

A win-win situation
A return on a gradual basis is a win-win situation for employee and employer. The employee gets to return to work sooner which enables them to boosts their confidence and enables them to slowly build up their stamina; meanwhile the employer has successfully provided support, averted a long term absence and is seen as a responsive and caring employer by other staff.

Our experience
Lorna Anderson, who heads up the company, is extremely well placed to provide employers with advice on mental health issues and return to work planning. She worked for over 20 years in NHS and private mental health settings as a ward and community nursing sister. Since 2002 she has been working with major insurers and businesses of all sizes throughout the UK using her skills and expertise to provide training and return to work support services for their staff with mental health issues.
