The hallowed pages of the Financial Times this October have carried a leader, letters and features on how career paths differ for men and women. The steady, linear progression of the typical man’s career has been contrasted with the extra phases that women must incorporate, for instance to have children or to care for an ageing relative. So the joint CBN/AWISE (Association of Women in Science and Engineering) event that looked at how three remarkable women have put together their careers was highly topical, and gave a packed audience plenty of things to think – and laugh – about.
