Using your network

It’s hard to believe it is June as I look out at a grey sky and try to remember the sun of yesterday.

Since the last issue of Grapevine we have had two very different events. In April we met with CIM at ARM where Ecover marketing manager, Clare Allman told us how her small marketing team rises to the ever-increasing challenges of a market that is more and more in the consumer spotlight. The evening was a great success and we are planning another CBN/CIM event for 2008.

In May Marcus Kilvington and Nick Eastwood of East GB shared with us the workings of the male mind. Yes, it is as we thought! Men can only do one thing at a time; they are not mind readers and are not offended by us telling them what to do in a succinct manner. Another intriguing fact is that men generally speak 10,000 words each day compared to 40,000 words for women. Apparently this is why they are less vocal as the day goes on – and I just thought they were asleep!

In June Robert Jones from Anglia Ruskin University will be speaking about Mind Mapping and promises a work shop with new ways of managing your innovation and organisation.

The last few months have been busy for CBN behind the scenes too. The CBN team took the decision to join Prowess and seek Flagship status. We will keep you up to date on our progress via the website.

CBN sponsor the Best Businesswomen category of the Regional Young Enterprise awards. Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading business and enterprise education charity. It offers a range of programmes, based on the principle of Learning by Doing, which brings volunteers from business into the classroom to work with teachers and students. This year our prize of £250 was awarded to Jemma Mynott, from team Generic at Hills Road Sixth Form college.

Recently a business contact from my salaried days Googled my name and up popped my CBN website entry. We are now working together on a very interesting project. So use the network you just never know when it will help you in your business and in your life!
